Report from Chennai
this is based on an update from srI TNS Narayanan, who visited the foreshore estate area for the past couple of days.
(i) in Foreshore estate, and surrounding areas in chennai, the fishermen/women want to get temporary housing up asap so that they can start setting their lives in order.
(ii) The fishermen want to start resuming their profession - they want help with repair of boats & nets.
Vedics is investigating the building of temporary huts in the area. More details on this soon.

9.0 earthquake has devastating the lives on coastal areas of Tamil nadu, killing over 5,000 people and leaving thousands homeless.
I fully support the efforts undertaken by Vedics.
As per the reports on the ground, The food relief seems to be well underway, and the local hospitals are actively working towards the medical needs.
The temporary housing and resettlement efforts are the ones most needed. (it is sad to hear No NGO or govt agencies funds have reached the victims yet - as of 01/01/2005 )
We hope Vedics (i) gets the approval from the local govt. to build the temporary shelters SOON.
